Flights in and out of Dublin or Shannon go daily and are easy from the USA. The dollar is strong against the pound, and they take Euros. The hotels are very comfortable. There are many types of accommodations from which to choose, castles if that is your style, or simple bed and breakfasts, hosted by the owners.

The Irish have really concentrated on FOOD and its preparation. We had some meals that if you closed your eyes, you would have thought that you were in France.
The people are so friendly and they love the USA. They want our business. As their economy is in bad shape, they are looking to the US to lead the way out of the recession. So, they are really sprucing up for travelers.
The list of activities and adventures abound. Cruising down the Shannon River in your own motor yacht, stopping off at little villages along the river, biking or wandering around the countryside, is relaxing and fun. Horseback riding is wonderful. Many hotel manor houses have horses or will get them for you. Ireland is one of the leading thoroughbred breeding countries, so they are very keen on travelers who have an interest. Some of the horse farms are open for a visit. Fishing, hiking, sitting on the cliffs above the Atlantic and watching the surf roll in, it is fantastic.
